The aim of our group is to offer an atmosphere of welcome for those with young children within a safe, caring Christian environment, where the adult carer feels comfortable, relaxed and understood.
We would like people to feel that it is their group and we welcome active participation of all who attend, particularly with regard to washing up, clearing away toys, activity ideas etc.
OPENING TIMES
Chatterbox is open on Wednesday and Thursday mornings from 9.30 to
11:00 am for children from birth to 3 years old with their parents or carers. Most people choose to come to either the Wednesday or the Thursday sessions, rather than both. The maximum number of adults we can accommodate is 15. (Once this number is reached for either the Wednesday or Thursday groups, a waiting list will operate.)
Most weeks the session will include the following elements:-
A Brew – we provide tea or coffee, juice and biscuits. We have a rota to help with the washing up.
The Activity – Children and their parents/carers are encouraged to share in a simple activity such as painting, sticking, playdough etc.
The Singing – we try to end each session with songs and nursery rhymes. This is also the time when we remember birthdays for the children, and each receives a small gift and card from Chatterbox.
Extra Activities – the last session before Christmas is an extended ‘party’ session, which is visited by ‘Father Christmas’, bearing gifts. We also finish with a party lunch when we finish for the summer holidays. On both occasions we have a sign up sheet for the lunch for a couple of weeks beforehand and everyone agrees what food they will contribute to the party.
In the summer term, when funds allow, we usually arrange a subsidised outing to a local playcentre.
From time to time we will let you know about special activities or events being organised by our church or playgroup.
FACILITIES
Pram Park – after you have come through the main door, there is a door on the right (just before the room we meet in) to a small room where you may leave prams etc. Obviously, it is advisable not to leave valuables in there. Please ensure the door is shut behind you.
Kitchen – at the door of the lounge (meeting room) turn right and through the door facing you. If you need the use of the kettles or microwave for baby’s bottle, please help yourself, or do not hesitate to ask a leader for assistance, if more convenient.
Toilets – to get to the toilets simply go through the kitchen. There is a nappy change area and nappy bin just outside the ladies toilets. Please ensure that you have closed the lounge door behind you and that, when you are returning from the toilets, you ensure the door leading back into the kitchen is properly closed. (There are children attending playgroup in a different room who could escape.)
Under the advice of the Parochial Church Council, our insurance cover comes under the policy held by the church. We must ensure the following:
1) Please remember that you are responsible for the actions of your child/ren whilst attending.
2) On no account let your child/ren leave the lounge without you, either through the pram park or out into the corridor. There is a risk they could get out onto the main road.
3) On no account must any of the toys or equipment be taken out of the lounge.
4) If you find that one of our toys is broken or not up to standard in any way, please draw it to the attention of one of the leaders.
5) Please do not bring toys from home. If your child/ren will not leave home without a particular toy we ask that it be left out of reach of other children. We cannot be held responsible for missing or damaged toys.
6) We ask that parents do not give their children drinks or snacks other than those provided during the session (except for babies, or children with special dietary requirements).
7) Please be vigilant when carrying hot drinks from the hatch. Hot drinks can scald children.
8) If anyone fails to turn up (with no explanation) for four weeks in a row, we are sorry but the place may be lost and offered to someone else.
With your help, we hope that Chatterbox will be a safe and friendly place for us all to meet and enjoy each other’s company, as well as share concerns and worries.
Thank you for your co-operation and friendship.
